Apple are currently building a new campus in Cupertino, California which looks more like a spaceship it’s so big. The main building will have four floors which will have glass exterior walls so that the employees can see outside. Apple’s new campus is 2.8 million square feet (176 acres) which is big enough for 20,000 employees.
The British firm Foster + Partner are the architects behind this massive build. Foster + Partner have previously built Wembly Stadium, Stansted Airport & London’s Millenium Bridge. The main building will be split up into sections with cafes, lobbies and entrances.
The design of the building has been thoroughly thought through so that departments can work easily together. Making it easy to move both vertically and horizontally between departments. The whole campus won’t be ready until 2017 but we’re unsure what exact date. The design of the campus is to be as self-sufficient as possible.
There will be 7,000 trees planted around the campus to make it greener and so that employees have places to go and work or relax. It is estimated to cost half a million for the whole design however the final cost will probably be more once all of the costs have been added up. The main building will include a $75m wellness centre so that employees can have a place to go and work out.
Headquarters will be fitted with a 1,000 seat underground auditorium so that Apple can hold their press conferences etc…1,000 bikes will be kept on site so that employers can ride around the campus easily. No doubt the hype surrounding the new Apple campus will evolve as the finishing date grows closer. I’m excited to see what the interior of the building will look like as we can only see the exterior at the moment.
