If you own an iPhone or any Apple product then you will know that now and again a new software update is released. In this video, a YouTuber tests out five different iOS updates to see which is the fastest on an iPhone 5 he tests iOS updates from 6 through to 10.
The first noticeable difference in the software is the screen when your iPhone has been locked. The iPhones with the iOS update from 6 to 9 have a “swipe to unlock” screen whereas the iPhone with the iOS 10 has a “press home to open” screen. Once the iPhones have all been unlocked you can see that the app icons are slightly different with each new update.
In the speed test to see which iPhone will start up first, it’s actually the iPhone with the iOS 6 that starts up first which is surprising as you would presume that the iPhone with the iOS 10 would start up first. In this instance, it’s actually the iPhone with the iOS 10 that takes the longest to start up. This could be because there is more software that needs to load up which is why it takes longer.
When you go to load the camera there is a change in which one opens up first as it’s the iPhone with the iOS 10 that loads up first and the iPhone with the iOS 8 that loads up last. We can see that as they test more and more applications to see which one opens up first the iPhone with the iOS 6 installed seems to be the one that opens up first the most.
Overall although each iPhone is tested with the same application there is an obvious difference between each iOS update. Some are a lot slower at opening things up whereas others are a lot faster. However, it shows that it doesn’t matter how new your iOS update is it can still load things up slower than previous iOS updates can.
