Why Do MacBooks Lithium-ion Batteries?
Lithium-ion batteries have come a long way since the initial development. They have far greater benefits to any other type of power storage method. The main benefits of using lithium-ion are that they charge much quicker, can be used for longer periods of time, and are able to store more power and all this comes with size and weight saving. Each battery has a cycle count meaning they are expected to be charged a number of times before losing their capacity and performance.

How To Check Your MacBook Model
To check your MacBook model number all you have to do is type in the serial number into the MacBook Medic serial number checker. You can find your serial number on the back of your MacBook. If you are unable to read the serial number because the font is too small then you can find the serial number by going to “About This Mac” from the Apple Menu. Once you have typed in your serial number the model of the MacBook will appear. Some examples, of Macbook model numbers, are A1398, A1466 & A1707.
Do MacBook Battery Models Have Different Batteries?
MacBooks have different battery models depending on the model of the MacBook as well as the time of year it was produced. For example, if you have a A1502 MacBook Pro that was manufactured towards the end of 2016 then this will have a different battery model than one that was produced in mid 2016. This is why it is important for us to know the year of the model as well as the model number. The year that the model was produced will help us to determine whether your MacBook is an early 2015, mid 2015 or late 2015 for example.
MacBook Battery Cycles
A MacBook battery has a lifespan which is determined by how many cycles the battery has done. On average your battery will be good for between 300 – 1000 cycles (a charge cycle is one full charge) depending on your model of Macbook. A battery cycle count is calculated by how much a person uses their battery’s power. However, a cycle count does not necessarily count a single charge. For example, if you charge your MacBook to 100% but only use 50% before you charge it again when you reach 50% again it will only count as one battery cycle. You can check your MacBook battery cycle amount on our page.
1. Click on Apple Logo in the menu bar
2. Click on “About This Mac” > “Systems Report” > “Power”
3. Under “Health Information” you will be able to see how many cycles the battery has done. Cycle counts can range from 300 to 1,000 depending on the model of the MacBook.
4. You will also see under “Health Information” the condition of the battery. There are four types of battery conditions these are normal, replace soon, replace now & service battery.
A normal battery condition means that your battery is either new or well taken care of. If you have this message then you do not need to do anything with your current battery.
A replace soon message means that your battery is slightly older but is starting to show signs of deteriorating such as holding less charge than before. If you have a replace soon message then you should expect to get a new battery in the future.
A replace now message means that your battery is old and will need to be replaced soon as the life of the battery is near to the end. This message also means that your battery may lose charge significantly more than usual. If you have a replace now message then you should replace your battery as soon as you can.
If your MacBook says service battery this means that you should change your battery as soon as you can. If you don’t change it then your laptop may shut down without warning or it may not turn on at all.
