Launched in 2014, the iPad Air 2 was — and still is — one of the most popular iPads ever made. Apple fused the glass and LCD into a single laminated panel for the first time, added Touch ID, and squeezed an A8X chip into a body just 6.1mm thick. That fully laminated screen looks fantastic, but it also means that even a small crack usually affects the whole display, not just the glass.

Because of this construction, a cracked iPad Air 2 screen almost always needs a complete display assembly replacement rather than a simple glass swap. Beyond the screen, the other issues we see most often are Touch ID home buttons that have stopped responding, batteries that no longer last a full day (or have started to swell slightly at the back), worn Lightning ports that won’t hold a charging cable steady, and unresponsive volume buttons after years of use.
